My 6 year old dog has been having some pain in his paws and neck and shoulder area what could be the cause of this?

There are any number of reasons a dog may show pain in the neck and shoulder area. An injury while running and playing may have strained muscles and ligaments. Certain small breed dogs seem prone to problems with their spinal column resulting in pain in the neck or back. If the limping and lameness are prolonged or result in the inability of the animal to get around, a veterinarian should be consulted. In some situations radiographs may be needed to isolate the problem and prescribe appropriate therapy.
