Rated 5 out of 5 by Solved Oskar's skin issues Our Belgian Malinois has sensitive skin - always breaking out. We tried all different brands of dog food - including the expensive ones from the vet. Someone told us to stop any dog food with chicken and raise the protein level. Miracle !! After two bags of this - Oskar's skin irritation is down by at least 90 %. Thank you !! March 25, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by With two dogs, one elderly and one young and energetic, I have found their food for life in Purina One. I have a 15 yo abused pit cross I rescued 8 years ago. She's always had a sensitive stomach with no particular pattern. I think it is from a number of factors; anxiety, ptsd, wolfing her food down, and overeating when possible. I have dealt with this for many years. She would become bloated and vomit food she had eaten up to 12 hours earlier completely intact and undigested. From the time I started feeding Purina One Smart-blend exclusively, Annie has not had one episode. She loves it, The only time I had issues from the first time I used Purina One, was when she would have treats or eat from my young dogs bowl. It is a little expensive, which is why I continued to feed less expensive food to my younger dog. But, now I am starting to understand some of the things we unknowingly feed our pets and I've made the change. Since doing so, my dogs are vibrant, no bloating, no stinky gas and can't wait to get to their food bowls. I've learned my lesson and use Annie's sensitive stomach as a great barometer than the labels - if she love is, doesn't get sick and stays lively, I am doing something right! October 26, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 Good Idea...BUT It was a great idea and he seems to like it. However there is one very big concern. See, my pal/service dog is a Standard Poodle. Poodles are prone to allergies. People who are prone to allergies tend to be allergic to corn. Same is true with pets. And this food has corn in it. If only you could remove corn from all of your products it would make having a dog and providing the best for that dog a lot easier. I am removing corn from my dogs diet before it becomes an issue as I can not afford to have him sick. If he is sick I don't work him. And he goes everywhere with me. Please rethink this one ingredient. It would be best for all pets. Green beans are good as are some other vegetables. Just not corn. Thank you.One other thing, I am rating a dog food, True Instinct. Yet the questions ask about cats. I don't have a cat I have one Standard Poodle Service Dog. September 8, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Tina F We rescued a poodle from a puppy mill who had been over-bred and was scheduled to be euthanized. She was underweight, her coat had to be shaved because it was dry and matted. She had no energy and didn't eat well. She just laid around, we had to carry her outside to potty initially. After a trip to the vet, we found out that her biggest problems were from her not getting enough nutrition. We started her out on Purina Healthy Puppy Formula (because the vet said she would benefit from extras in the puppy formula and it's easier to eat) She was very shy but if I would sit beside her, I could get her to eat. We noticed changes immediately ! She became more energetic and more social. Her coat came in soft and shiny.Thank you from my family and Josie our adopted poodle. Your food gave her just what she needed to return to health! February 12, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by True Instinct saved my dog A couple of months ago our 14 year old german shepherd golden retriever mix started going down hill. We'd been feeding our 3 dogs various blends of another dog food that we thought was good for them. Hunter would hardly even get up. His belly was bloated and finally he quit eating, we just knew he was going to pass any day. We got him to eat cereal or cornbread with milk, wouldn't touch dog food. Our other two dogs ate the other food but, reluctantly.About 2 weeks into his decline one of our other dogs threw up and it was water and a whole bunch of little white beads from the dog food that was suppose to be good for their teeth! We went looking for a better dog food and found True Instinct with venison and turkey. We started by adding warm water and he ate the whole bowl! Within days we had a new dog! He's now active, he even runs again, and alert, a happy dog, we can see it in his eyes. Our other two large dogs love it too. They are healthy and full of energy. We want to thank you for your True Instinct dog food and for saving our dog, Hunter's life. We've been feeding our cats Purina Naturals for over a year and they love it We should have know the dog food would be good tooHunter's Mom April 16, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by He won't eat any other blend now. My girlfriend and I put our dog on smartblend after our vet had recommended it for him. We initally put him on the Chicken and rice blend and switched up the blends every now and then and he loved them all. Then I found the True Instinct blend. We got that for him and he has protested if we get any other blend now. Him being half Bassett hound, it doesn't surprise me that he won't eat any other blend. The real chunks of venison and the real turkey as the #1 ingredient is great. The other blends were great for him, but his coat is shinnier, eyes are brighter, and his muscle tone seems even better than it did on any other blend. He loves to eat the True Instinct and will let you know when its time to eat. Thanks for making this blend. Its great for the hounds. April 7, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Winner w/my dogs! I have two dogs, one older male who is quite picky about his food. Over the years, we have tried everything, including adding canned food and gravies to his dry food to make it more appealing. That was until we started him on Purina One - he loved the meaty bits of food mixed in with his dry! But inevitably, after about 6 months, he started hesitating before eating, hoping for something better. We changed slightly to the True Instinct and he still charges towards his food bowl to eat! He is also allergic to some meats, so we avoid several such as chicken, but the venison and turkey have garnered no allergic reaction and he is actually more active then ever! Oh, our female? She'll inhale almost anything, so no review from her. February 16, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by My furbabies don't really care for this. I feed my babies Purina One so when I got my care package and it had the True Instinct in it, I just knew my furbabies would jump on it. That wasn't the case. They actually picked at it instead of eating it. I mixed in their Chicken and Rice food with the True Instinct, so they picked out what they liked and unfortunately the True Instinct wasn't it. Today I just put some of the True Instinct in their bowls and they ate it but not like they do the Chicken and Rice or Lamb and Rice. My furbabies are picky eaters and would probably come to enjoy the True Instinct if fed that everyday but I think I will stick with the Chicken and Rice or Lamb and Rice since that is what they like. I enjoyed the opportunity to let them try the new Purina One. :) August 3, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by My dogs pick it out of dish and leave on the floor Have been using Purina One for years and decided to try the new PURINA ONE SMARTBLEND TRUE INSTINCT. I mixed it with regular Purina One to gradually switch them over but they pick the True Instinct pieces out and put on the floor or leave it in the dish. I have 2 dogs and they both refuse to eat True Instinct. I even tried mixing it with a little canned Purina One to entice them and they ate it that way but one of them threw it all back up within 20 mins. I put them back on their regular Purina One and they ate all of it and no problems. Now no more dog food all over the floor. I now have large bag of dog food that I can't use. August 28, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Country Poodles Run On True Instinct We have two cream-colored Standard Poodles: Harlow and Cooper. You won't find any ribbons or fancy haircuts on these guys. We live in the country and both dogs are extremely strong, fit and athletic. They are also extremely finicky eaters. True Instinct appeals to our big poodles in a way that no other dog food ever has, wet or dry. The first time I brought True Instinct into the house, both dogs went right to the bag and started nosing it. When I put the food down for them, they ate with gusto. The 'True Instinct' name for this new combination of turkey and venison dog food prompted me to try it, because after all -- dogs are predators. Those rich, gamey morsels seem to satisfy our two predators, body and soul. October 5, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Favorite of 3 We have 3 large breed dogs, 1,5,& 11yrs old. I've been trying to find the right food to suit all their needs. So far, this has been been wonderful for the older ones skin allergies and the younger ones energy levels. At a fair price! We recommended it to a friend who's dog would only eat wet food. Now he can do away w the stinky cans because she loves this dry food. Thank you! November 20, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by If you Love your Dog, This is a MUST HAVE!!! I rcvd this product in the mail today as a sample. I must say that when I opened the bag and looked at the product inside, I got excited! It smelled good enough to eat. My Rotty LOVED it. He has been eating pedigree for the last 3 yrs and he will generally pick at his bowl for about an hour before he gets hungry and eats. When I put that sample bag in his bowl.............he destroyed it.I love the ingredients. Everything that a dog should have. From the Crunchy kibble to the chunks of moist meats....its a true home run. I will be switching over first thing in the morning..........Problem is I am not sure where to buy this yet. Looked online and cannot find a store that carries it yet!!! August 3, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Picky eaters love this food I love that the fist ingredient is some meat. My dog stopped eating to the point she became anorexic. I tried every thing to get her to eat. The vet couldn't find a reason for her weight lose, She wouldn't eat any dog food I tried I even tried the really expensive brands and neither dog could tolerate Chicken. Then I came across this at the store and decided to try it. She LOVES it. In the morning its the dry and the evening its the can food. Both dogs(who are picky eaters) start licking their lips and drooling while I'm putting it in their bowl. They gobble it up in minutes. The dog that was anorexic is now putting her weight back on and can't wait to eat. BEST OF ALL this food isn't expensive! October 1, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Taste I srarted purina one smartblend on my inside dog about a months ago and I noticed that he would not eat the triangle shape food, so I gave my other two bigger outside dogs the same food and they too, did not eat the triangles. I thought it was kind of strange, so I bought a new bag and all three dogs refused to eat the triangles. I gave my son the two bags of food for his dog and that dog also would eat the two other shapes, but left the triangles behind. Don't know the reason why four different breed dogs would not eat the triangle parts, but I won't be buying this dog food in the future. June 29, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by My dog is OBSESSED with this food! I have tried tons of foods for my little Chihuahua mix ( he's really sensitive w/ allergies) - all of them being really expensive, holistic, grain free, limited ingredient etc. He never liked any of them - he's extremely finicky!! Money is super tight for me right now so I got him a bag of this and O.M.G!!! he was so excited, I could barely open the bag LOL! When I fed it to him # gradually of course & mixed w/ some of his other food) he practically inhaled it!! To be honest it may not be an all organic, super pricey, type of pet food but he'll eat it no problem compared to other foods were he starved himself. This is an awesome food for a finicky dog!! Rated 5 out of 5 by Bulls Eye for Purina! I have a senior lab, adult lab and a Yorkie. My senior lab is missing teeth and all of them are finicky. I have tried multiple dog foods. They would eat it only because they were hungry and there was nothing else. I knew it and felt discouraged that I could not find a dog food that excited them. I found this at a PetsMart and decided to try it. All the men in my family hunt and we eat venison. It is a lean meat, low in fat and is healthy. So why not try it for my dogs as well. I was excited when I opened the bag I put a small amount in the dishes and they went to town. Thank you Purina for another great product... I plan on telling all my dog friends about this product. Rated 5 out of 5 by OUR DOGS LOVE We have a pit/lab mix that has food allergies and needed to put weight on. We were walking through giant eagle one day and found this dog food. So we decided to try it. We also have a pit/boxer mix, who is also a rescue dog and needed to put weight on. We fed this food to our dogs at the same time and they absolutely LOVED IT. We were so excited because our pit/lab mix actually enjoys eating this food, he's picky and won't eat if he doesn't like it. Also, both dogs put on the weight they needed and they look great. This food has also helped with their coats, they are a lot softer now. I recommend this food to everyone! April 19, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by "ABSOLUTE BEST" AFTER TRYING MANY! After reading all the controversy in selecting just the right dog food for our 120 lb. Old English Sheepdog and trying numerous ones that were highly recommended, TRUE INSTINCT has by far been the most desirable & the one that has met our goal. Our dog, Hadley, loves it and NEVER hesitates when offering it to him. Our Vet recommended that we find one that agreed with our dog's digestive system & stick with it. His problem he felt was with my trying mostly the expensive brands & then finding that Hadley would quit eating it. We have been feeding the Turkey & Venison True Instinct for a few months now & he loves it!!! March 8, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by love it! While I know other dog foods like blue buffalo are suppose to be healthier for your dog....its frickin EXPENSIVE! Purina one is one of the few foods that I have found (dry food) that my picky little old pug will eat without turning his nose up at it. Love this product. Tried it on a whim to see if he would finally eat it and not be so picky and he loved it. September 25, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Made the switch, so glad we did! We had been using another brand of food with both our dachshunds for a couple years. We'd been having major house breaking problems with our year old mini. Since making the change to Purina One Smartblend True Instinct he has become much more regular and no longer has sudden urges to go at random. Both dogs coats are smoother, and they seem to really love the food. And to think, we've only been using this new food for a week! Can't wait to see what else comes! August 13, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by PARTY OF 3 Having 3 four legged babies of 3 different sizes their nutritional needs can vary as well as their ages (1 pitbull -6, 1 chowmix - 10 1 jack russel -7). I received my TRUE INSTINCT sample package yesterday opened up the bag and handed them all a handful, YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN THEIR FACES...they ate it up as if it were a treat! With the differences in their ages, and activity levels I've had a hard time pleasing them all when it came to their food, the eldest Chow preferred a softer kibble, the Jack Russell has a small mouth, and the Pitbull is a little finicky...I think I have finally found one food that pleases them all...YIPEE! Rated 5 out of 5 by Great for Diabetic Dog My husband & I adopted Pebbles about 6 months ago from our local shelter. She is a 5 year old redbone coonhound/ brittany spaniel mix. She is diabetic & blind as well. When we first adopted her she was VERY under weight at 35 pounds. We first used Purina One Chicken & Rice which she did love too but after a while I noticed she stopped gaining weight. So I compared it to the True Instincts which has even more protein & that's even better yet for her. Not only does she LOVE this dog food but now she's at a healthy weight of 50 pounds, her insulin levels are stable & she has so much more playful energy in her March 6, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by First Food My Dog Will Actually Eat I have a very picky eater, Shih Tzu. She had some intestinal issues early on and we had to put her on a prescription dog food for awhile, which she hated...would only eat when she was really, really hungry. After intestinal issues cleared up, we received a sample of the PurinaOne True Instinct and thought we would give it a try. It is the first dog food in 5 years that she actually eats. She loves the meaty pieces the best and will actually take a few of them and hide them in the house for later. We were worried about intestinal issues coming back with changing food, but have had no issues at all. February 3, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by My Dog LOVES This Food! We have been feeding our Cardigan Welsh Corgi Purina One Beyond Lamb and Rice for awhile but when we went to purchase more over the weekend the store no longer had it (not sure if it's still available or not). So, I picked up a bag of the Purina One Smart Blend True Instinct and I am amazed at how much our dog loves this food. She literally runs to the food container then runs to her dish and gobbles it up! She absolutely cracks me up. Loves, loves this food! July 24, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Loves the taste I have tried a few different dog foods over the years, but my seven year old chihuahua seems to love this dog food! He is at his bowl longer eating in the morning than ever his whole adult life. I feel confident with a Purina product that he is getting the nutrition he needs! September 13, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent I have 3 very different dogs.. they each have different likes and dislikes.. the only thing I can honestly say is that all 3 of them love Purina One (Lamb). My only problem with this food is that they're more expensive than others. I'm retired/disabled so I have to watch every penny. I love my dogs so once a month I splurge and got them ONE.. they love me enough to last almost all month. August 14, 2014

Rated 5 out of 5 by Great dog food my dogs LOVE. I recently switched my dogs to this brand after comparing the ingredients to Science diet this dog food has the same nitration and vitamins as any of the higher end brands with more portion!! And a few more vitamins then some. This is a great dry dog food and coast much less then the higher end brands. I highly recommend this bled, true instinct. My dogs digestion and coat are much healthier now that I have switched to this blend. I have two sled dogs a Alaskan Malamute and a Siberian husky and the food does them so much justice!!! Rated 5 out of 5 by The Only Food My Dogs Enjoy! My two dogs Bolt and Grizzly are picky eaters. We started them as puppies with quality food-no corn, more meat! We started feeding the Purina One Smart Blend when they were a year old. At first they loved the chicken brand for a couple of weeks, but then they would not eat it unless we mixed it with wet dog food. The first night we saw the New Turkey and Venison we decided to try it out. Both dogs licked the bowls clean! For about the past 3 months we have not had to add anything to their food, which lets me know they truly enjoy the new taste. Thank you Purina for the great new flavor!! October 6, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by ok quality, but needs better taste My dog (Akita 2 yr old Kiko doesn't hate it, and also doesn't look forward to it anf gulping it down, but doesn't seem to hate it. I still wish it had better ingrdeants, such as Nutro, which is not affordable to me. It would be nice if a company like Purina, made a better than grocery store item, but a lot less expensive than say Nutro and those other types. August 19, 2014

Rated 4 out of 5 by Instint All of my four rescues eat it! They are sll healthy and active. October 12, 2014
